Why You Should Fly Instead Of Drive

Are you planning to go somewhere by next week? If yes, how are you planning to go there, drive there or just take a flight? I have seen a misconception among most of the people that driving is cheaper than taking a flight, this is true in some situations but most of the time flying will cost you less.

When driving, you have to pay for so many things besides the gas charges. Seattle is my home town and I have to go to Las Vegas at least two to four times in a year on business errand and I have figured out that using a flight can be lot more cheaper provided you are going alone.

The first thing you need to know is that in order for me to drive to Las Vegas it would cost me roughly $200 and that is with my car getting 22 miles per gallon. (You might be thinking that this is very less compared to the flight cost~ Now this is where it is expensive}. The problem is that I still have to buy food and it would most likely take me 3 days to get to Las Vegas since it takes roughly 19 hours or driving.

Food - Depending on your eating habits this can cost you $120 to $150 in one-way trip. As of me I usually spend around $130 and try to keep this as low as possible.

Lodging - Being that I am not going to sleep in my car on the side of the road it would cost roughly another $100 for 2 nights to stay at a hotel which would mean another $200 each way.

Car expenses - Did you add the amount you have spent even before starting your journey? Yes, I mean the amount you have paid just to make sure your car is ready to withstand at least the 20 hours long ride which can cost you anther $100 to $150.

Do you see how things keep adding up? Just remember that some of these costs are paid twice since I have to get back home too. Now did you realize why flying is better than driving in most cases? This is why flying makes more sense than driving.

At this point I would also like to give you some idea that driving can be cheaper for you if you decide to travel with few of your friends as this will reduce your per head gas, hotel and car maintenance cost. So, flying is much cheaper in cases you have to travel alone and driving can cost you as much as double or triple of the amount you pay for flying and don't forget the time and trouble you have to take to reach there.

When it comes to flying you need to understand that you can easily get cheap airline tickets.
